Andaz Hotel London

A "Very East London Christmas" celebrated the local history of the Andaz Hotel London on Liverpool Street.

Seven perspex bells were suspended across the hotel atrium each embodying elements of East End personality and etched with the history and the icons that have shaped the area's identity.

The installation brought to life the #SoEastLondon hashtag, a creative digital campaign. By tweeting from anywhere in the world, bells chimed in the lobby area.

What we did

Using a Raspberry Pi, we built a real-time audio system to track the #SoEastLondon Twitter hashtag. A bells audio snippet was sounded in response to each Tweet.

Due to the long lived nature of the installation, it was imperative to ensure that any inadvertent power outages, restarts, and app failures would trigger an automatic restart of all systems.
